Congratulations! You've made the decision to purchase a Volkswagen Tiguan, the smallest of the three SUVs now offered by the brand.  We hope you're enjoying your purchase and that everything is performing accordingly for you.  However, if you're noticing that any one of the lights on your dash have shown up, we're here to help.

At Prestige Volkswagen, we know that your car quickly becomes a major part of your life. Therefore, that light on your dash can be a cause of concern.  However, you can rest assured that we are here to make sure those lights are figured out as soon as they come on.  We can also provide some helpful advice on what needs your immediate attention, and what doesn't, with this helpful guide.

Tiguan Warning Lights

There are three different colors of lights on your 2018 VW Tiguan and they are red, yellow, and green.  Typically, the green lights are indicators that part of your car is functioning or engaged, such as the cruise control or the daytime running lights.  When you see these lights, proceed as usual.

The yellow lights are indicative that something COULD be malfunctioning, but they don't require your immediate attention as they are not disabling to your vehicle.  Simply schedule some service and have them checked out at your nearest convenience.

Finally, the red lights mean that something is definitely happening with your car that requires your attention, but it isn't always all that serious. When one of these lights comes on, it's time to stop the car and check things out.  Schedule some service soon.

Volkswagen SUV Lights Decoded

  • Hood Open (RED) - This light is going to look like your car with the front open.  This indicates that you may not have securely fastened your hood after you performed your oil change.  Simply pull over and close it as soon as you can.

  • Oil Pressure Low (RED/YELLOW) - If you notice a red oil can light next to a gauge light accompanied by an exclamation point, this means your oil pressure is low.  Safely guide your car to the side of the road, call your roadside service provider, and get it checked.

  • Washer Fluid Low (YELLOW) - If you see a yellow light that closely resembles your windshield with a spout of water coming out of the top, this means your washer fluid is low. Replenish at your nearest convenience.

  • Fuel Cap (YELLOW) - When you see a yellow illustration of your car with a larger gas cap coming out of it, this is showing you that you've either forgotten to replace your gas cap after refueling or your cap isn't tightened completely.

  • Shift Lock (GREEN) - When you see a circle with a shoe pressing a pedal surrounded by parentheses and your car won't shift into gear, this is an indicator that you must apply the brake to put the car in gear.

  • Daytime Running Lights (GREEN) - This is simply another indicator to let you know that your daytime running lights are engaged.  No attention necessary!
