Your Volkswagen Jetta dashboard
lights are incredibly important-they let you know when there's any sort
of problem with your car, as well as how serious it is, and what you
should do about it. So, if you're noticing any of these symbols lighting
up, then we encourage you to schedule a service appointment.
Here at Prestige Volkswagen, we're focused on serving our customers around Turnersville, Cherry Hill, Mount Laurel, and the surrounding New Jersey communities. Just call us or chat with us online today.
Volkswagen Jetta: Critical Warning Indicators
So,
without further ado, let's dive into the dashboard lights. The most
important thing to remember is that color is an indication of severity.
Green lights typically let you know that a system is functioning
properly; yellow lights let you know that something needs attention; and
red lights let you know to cease driving immediately and call your
local VW service center. Here, we'll focus on the red lights.
Coolant Level Low/Coolant Temperature High. This warning light looks roughly like a thermometer. It'll also alert you with three audible chimes, and you should pull over and check your coolant levels ASAP.
Parking Brake. A circle with a crossed-out P indicates that there's a parking brake malfunction. Call us!
Hood Open. The symbol of a car with an open hood means exactly that-get out and close it right away.
Oil Pressure. When the red oil can and the yellow pressure warning lights come on, that means that oil pressure is an issue. You need to turn your engine off immediately and consult your local VW dealership.
Check Engine Light. Sometimes, the check engine light (which looks like an exclamation point within a circle), means that the parking brake is currently applied. However, when it doesn't mean that, your situation could be dire-either there's an Anti-Lock Brake System malfunction (if the ABS light is on, too) or there's low brake fluid. Either way, these are issues that you'll want professionals to address.
Battery Error: Alternator Low Voltage Output. The red battery symbol (complete with plus and minus symbols and all) means that the charging system is failing-no charging system, no starting the vehicle.
Those are the most crucial warning lights. However, there are a variety of yellow ones that you should pay attention to, as well. If you have questions about any of these, reach out to us…
- Automatic Transmission Malfunction
- Engine Malfunction (On-Board Diagnostics)
- Oil Level Low
- Tire Pressure Low
- Washer Fluid Low
- And many more!
Our expert Volkswagen Jetta technicians are intimately familiar with these dashboard lights (as well as plenty of others). They'll carry out whatever procedures they need to do to get everything up to speed.
